Kay Nielsen
Copenhague, Danemark
L’enchanteur du Nord est né à Copenhague (Danemark) en 1886. Avec deux parents acteurs, il reçoit une éducation artistique et persévère dans cette direction en étudiant l’art à Paris.
Grâce à son style particulier, il est rapidement commissionné pour illustrer une large variété de contes, de « En poudre et crinoline » (Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch) en 1913, « Les nuits d’Arabie » vers 1917, « Contes de Fées » (Hans Andersen) en 1924 ainsi que les récits des frères Grimm en 1925 et « Magie Rouge » en 1930.
À la fin des années 1930, il quitte le Danemark pour la Californie (États-Unis), travaille pour la Walt Disney Company de 1937 à 1941 et collabore notamment à la production du film « Fantasia ».
Il meurt à l’âge de 71 ans alors que le soleil atteint son apogée, le 21 juin 1957.
